Version 5.01 - NO WIPE RELEASE
VillainROM 5.01 is the latest release of my 2.1 port for the GSM HERO. It’s ported from the CDMA Hero, so is clearly designed with the Hero’s hardware in mind. It’s fast; very, fast.
Please note that this version is still in Beta. There are a couple of very annoying bugs in the build.
5.01 is a minor re-build of the ROM - which will provide a base for all future no-wipe releases.
CHANGELOG:
- Re-themed the whole thing to Stock Rosie
- Added the fix for DMAgent
- Added Titanium Backup to /Data (If you get a FC when using it on first boot, persevere. It will work)
RUN A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING
So… to the NEGATIVES:
- Do not flash this rom if your contact’s numbers are stored with a + at the beginning. The ROM, as it’s from the CDMA Hero, Sprint seem to have added some assisted call settings. Specifically, it changes the + at the beginning of a number to a 011.
I believe there’s also an issue with certain long telephone numbers that start with anything other than 0.
[NOTE – THIS WORKS FINE ON UK NUMBERS STARTING WITH 0]
- Small graphical glitch in the contacts app : Coming soon as a small fix.
- 3D rotate bug in 3D gallery
- Friendstream missing : Will be added later as a small fix.

- Bluetooth/GPS
- Speed tweak in boot.img
- EXTREMELY FAST - Fastest 2.1 ROM YET
- Launcher 2 works - just push it.
- Some LIVE WALLPAPERS WORK - only if you turn off Sense and use Launcher
- Network Location working 100%
- Automatic Brightness works
- All apps in market
